3 emotional keys to Pep Guardiola’s success as a leader.

3 emotional keys to Pep Guardiola’s success as a leader.  Pep Guardiola has become one of the most important coaches of the last decades. At first, his ability as a coach was doubted due to his lack of experience and his lack of authoritarian leadership, but he has shown that he has a great personality and a very high level of team management, while impeccably applying tactical, physical and psychological aspects in the sports training of his players.

Emotional intelligence is undoubtedly part of Guardiola’s strategy and training and is present in one of the keys to his success that we explain below, and which is currently reflected in his team management as coach of Manchester United.

1. Leadership and positive communication: empirical studies show that being an authoritarian leader does not guarantee success and that even better results can be obtained by having a good relationship with your players and a positive leadership and communication style, something that is not at odds with discipline at all.

2. High level of emotional management at team level: not only does he get involved and give his all to his team, which he sets an example for and is recognised and valued by the players, but he has also found a highly successful training methodology combining various techniques from the best in recent times. He knows his players very well, knows how to transmit and demands 100% from them as he is 100%. Something that has worked excellently for him is highlighting the individual strengths of each of his players.

3. Innovate and recognise the work of his people: Guardiola is aware that to obtain results and the conviction of his entire team, he must be creative and innovative. He has demonstrated this in his short but impeccable career and his players value and appreciate it, providing credibility in his team management. As does surrounding himself with the best professionals and recognising their great work, which makes his team work.

There is no doubt that one may disagree with some aspects of his methodology, but there is no doubt that he has become one of the leading coaches of recent times.
